Youth from Lithuanian and Spanish partner organisations participated in a youth exchange “Confronting Cyberbullying” in Pasvalys, Lithuania in spring of 2019. They had the opportunity to learn about cyberbullying and explore the variety of it. During the exchange they noticed that the majority of them had either experienced or witnessed bullying in some form in schools, communities or online. Through discussion they came to the realization that they themselves had very little knowledge on how to recognise, understand and confront bullying.
The evident and alarming truth about bullying is that our society is not doing enough to stop it. If only we increase awareness of bullying and intensify our anti-bullying policies, there is a chance that one day it will decrease and maybe will be suppressed. Bullying is like an epidemic. It is usually fierce, merciless, destructive process and the effects can be catastrophic. It occurs in our communities and sadly, mostly in our schools. Bullying statistics are so staggering and scary that we just have to agree that we, as a society, need serious consideration and immediate action.
The objectives of the project:
O1: Provide participants with context of bullying and its variety, explore the types of bullying and experience it through real-life examples and forum theatre;
O2: Develop participants analytical, critical thinking, assertion competences, bullying resistance, discussion and debate skills, self-expression, oral-language skills and creativity;
O3: To exploit their created bullying prevention-awareness content for project dissemination and valorization on the local, national and international levels.
