Duration: 14-02-2020 - 13-02-2022

Project number: 2019-3-LT02-KA105-006527

Programme: Erasmus +

Key Action: Learning Mobility of Individuals

Action type: Youth mobility

Nowadays society is highly influenced by social and mass media. It’s important to learn to use and evaluate information we receive. It is especially actual for young people who are vulnerable by social media. Media literate youth and adults would better understand the complex messages we receive from television, radio, Internet and other forms of media. Being media literate is not only capability to evaluate information, but also creating your own message, this is that this youth exchange is going to be seeking – to improve competence of media literacy. Learning how to write inspiring and influencing articles and how to use mass media efficiently can become significant tool to solving various youth problems – raising social problems from families to the daylight, inspiring social initiatives and youth actions, promoting advantages of lifelong and non-formal learning, encourage social and economic participation of youngsters.

Participating countries show low results in field of media literacy as according to Media Literacy Index 2018 demonstrated results Romania has 38 points, Hungary – 40, Poland - 55, Italy - 50 and Lithuania 55 points out of 100 accordingly. Romania, exceptionally, is the least media literate country in EU. It shows high topic’s actuality and need for participants from these countries.

In Lithuania and Poland youngsters are very vulnerable to influence done by media. A lot of information provided through mass media channels is misleading and tries to create negativity. They complain a lot about economic situation in the country, without checking the information which is provided via mass media. This affects their dissatisfaction of living in the country and leads to emigration. We believe, that if youngsters were more media literate, all this situation would be different.

Partners from Hungary and Romania claim that media literacy skills are extremely important for youngsters with social obstacles and fewer opportunities. It would help to identify better social problems in society and attract its attention to these issues What is more, members of organisation being more media literate could help these organisations to implement their mission more effectively.

Partners of Italy believe that more media literate society equals more active society and this is very important topic for improvement of social situation as well. As their cultural club is working on these topics, they believe, that youngsters being capable to provide attractive and convincing messages about importance of active citizenship can encourage social and economic participation of youngsters.

Project’s goal:
Developing competences in the field of media literacy for 40 youngsters (including 15 youngsters with fewer opportunities (economic, geographical and social obstacles) aged 16 – 23 years by organizing a youth exchange between 07-16.05.2020 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
