Name of the project: Science in life

Project identification number: 2021-1-IT02-KA210-SCH-000031456

Program:Erasmus+ (KA210-SCH - Small-scale partnerships in school education)

Coordinator: IC Pontassieve (Itally)

Project duration: 16.01.2022- 15.01.2024

Description:

Science in life was developed as a response to the need of changing students’ perception of mathematics and science subjects in schools. In many cases, science, in general, is considered as burdensome duty instead of a universal and useful tool, helpful in everyday life. Many students are uncomfortable with their lack of mathematical competence, but they cannot find the motivation and purpose to improve it. Revealing the connection between seemingly unrelated mathematical problems and their everyday school difficulties provides an opportunity to change the way of thinking about the role of science in the educational process. Mathematics is a part of our human cultural heritage, and it’s the engine of progress and the foundation of modern life. The awareness that everyday life problems may be solved using the same methods as mathematical tasks may be a breakthrough for students to take up the challenge, and acquire new skills and knowledge. The project explores an approach to teaching, using STEM methodology, that is integrated science learning through the use of experiments, and also CLIL method.

 Project objectives:

  • To convince students about the importance of math, technology, and science in everyday life situations so they can apply this knowledge to solve problems;
  • To provide teachers with knowledge of the CLIL method, as an effective way of combining foreign language proficiency and subject teaching;
  • To promote the use of STEM methodologies among teachers;
  • To improve the communication skills of students and teachers and the foreign language proficiency;
  • To develop effective cooperation skills in groups of participating students;
  • To make participants aware of the need of taking actions to reduce their carbon footprint. Science and technology is a valid tools to achieve this goal.

Planned activities under the project:

  • Conduct seminars and workshops to teach participating teachers about CLIL methodology and STEM-based curriculum;
  • Implementation of workshops with the participation of students arranged in international groups, who will solve problems using experiments and scientific research;
  • Provide training to subject teachers addressing the specific needs of their particular area of interest.
  • Establish contact with academics and visit science centers where, University professors in cooperation with students, will perform science projects tailored to students' needs and abilities. Professors will also share with teachers their experience in the field of education;
  • Organizing sports activities lead to improving bonds between participating students and improving skills of effective cooperation.

Partner institutions in the project:

  • IC Pontassieve (Italy)
  • Karatay Belediyesi Imam Hatip Ortaokulu (Turkey)
  • Liceul Teoretic "Emil Racovita (Romania)
  • AGIFODENT - Asociacion Granadina para la informacion, formacion y desarrollo de las nuevas tecnologias (Spain)
